Trail Conditions:

Trail in good condition

ROAD:

Road suitable for all vehicles

Bugs:

Bugs were not too bad

Snow:

Snow free

The weather was perfect. It was a super experience.

It took us 6 hours all around as we are not super experienced hikers and apparently walked slower than the average.

It was a challenging hike but also manageable.

Definitely follow the cairns on Pumpelly trail.

The view from the top of the mountain was priceless.

There were other hikers around but it did not feel crowded.

  1. Hi! Just wondering what you did for parking? From what I’ve been able to find out, it sounds like there is roadside parking only, and not much of it. Also, did you need to resister with the State Park? It looks like this trail starts quite a ways from the official parking lot that I would be paying for. Any guidance you can provide would be appreciated. I ‘ve been wanting to start these hikes for some time, but all the confusion around the pandemic has held me back.

    1. Hi Jay,
yes, I had the same reservations. But everything turned out great. The roadside parking is just fine. There were about 7 or 8 cars already parked when we arrived at 10am. And there were plenty of spaces to park left. The parking stretches pretty far. Just park on the one side only. Not on the lakeside. You will see when you get there. And no need to register since it is not at the official park entrance. Everything worked out really well for us. I highly recommend going. Let me know if you have any other questions. Best of luck. Britta

      1. Thanks, Britta! I really appreciate the intell! I was considering going tomorrow, but I’m guessing that weekends are way more crowded there these days – all of the parking is already taken in the “official” lot. I’ll likely see what the weather looks like mid-week, and then take a day off from work and drive up. I may end up opting for the White Dot trail simply because there’s a physical address to the parking lot for my GPS (when did I become so dependent on that thing?), but then again, I may take a spin down East Lake Road if I get there early enough and I can figure out where it is. It’ll be a game time decision, as I expect a few of these will be. Fingers crossed the weather stays this nice as we move into the middle of next week, and I’m there, one trail or another.
