We started our hike in Sierra Madre at approx. 6:45 a.m. It was a bit cold in the beginning of the hike. Around the first mile, our body temperatures heated up fast and peeled off some layers right away. We continued our hike up in moderate & steady pace. We regrouped occasionally along the trails and made sure everyone was okay. We got to Orchard Camp with no problem. We took a quick break and continued.

The trail from Orchard Camp to the bench was about 2 miles of switchbacks. None of us have taken this part of the trail before. It was shaded for most part and there were some technical areas, which I didn't mind. We got to the bench and saw other hikers taking their breaks. We stopped for about 10 minutes to have some snacks and nutrition. After our stop, we pushed for the summit.

We noticed parts of the trail to the summit were burnt from brush fires. We made it to the top at 11:00 a.m. We had our lunch and took photos of the Mt. Wilson Monument and overlooking view of L.A. Just before noon, we headed back down on the same trail we went up on. I told Aleni, Alejandra & Jesse to go ahead and trail run the descent. Mercedes & I decided that we would hike down. Not too far along summit, she complained that her feet were uncomfortable from her new pair of hiking shoes. I checked her feet, she has blisters on both sides…. Ouch!!! Knowing that she was in pain, I advised her to take her time hiking down. Slowly but surely, we made it back to our car.

Overall we all felt accomplished on our first peak of the #sixpackofpeaks2018 challenge. Can't wait for the next peak!!!
