Our hike started out great, bright & early in the morning. Perfect weather. The hike was fairly easy until the last climb to the summit. Beautiful breeze and scenery at the summit. Coming back, we somehow ended up on another trail. We thought we were on the rim trail which would meet back to the original trail, but NO! We were hiking through trees and brush that was whacking us in the face, legs etc. Hence the name of this hike – WHACKADOO! We hiked about 3 miles before deciding to backtrack to the summit and find the right trail. We did., and finally started back down the way we originally came up. We were prepared so we had plenty of food and water for the additional miles and hours we were hiking. By the time we reached our car, we had hiked 16 miles. Not the original plan, but a great hike.
