3:30am and my alarm was blaring. It was time to get up to make the drive from Bakersfield to Chantry Flat. The goal was to make it in time to get a parking space. Everyone I talked to about the trail said that space was limited to park and filled up quickly by sunrise. I made it just in time to catch one of the three last parking spots! I through my bag on my back and checked my watch it was 6:40am. I had planned to start at 7:00am but the sooner I started the trail I knew the sooner I would finish. I made my way down the service road with a couple of other hikers heading the same direction as me. The trail was beautiful and the wild flowers were in full effect. The creek seemed to be barley trickling along and there was evidence that it was flowing stronger at one point. The water fall was beautiful as was all the campsites I passed by. Mountain bikers were also taking full advantage of the awesome weather and the great trail conditions. The last mile of the switchbacks the sun really started to warm up but the shade trees at the top of Wilson cooled me back down. The cosmic cafe was open and I had an amazing lunch before heading back down. The trail down was equally as stunning as the trail up. It took me about 10 hours to finish the hike. I’m glad I took my time to take in all the beauty because when I got back to work on Monday my batteries were definitely recharged!
