We started at the Cadillac Trailhead at 7:20 am.  The first two miles are a tough, steep jeep road.  The second two miles are relatively easy, compared to the first.  We got to the canyon floor and were met with cool temperatures, water in abundance and salamanders.  The next two miles are single track on the Joplin trail with loose rocks and some low tree branches.  At the Main Divide Road, it is an easy walk to the top, which is located near the southernmost tower.  We checked the forest service map prior to leaving and felt that this was the only legal way to the top since Holy Jim was closed.  We didn't see any signage on the way up that would have told us otherwise.  The hike down was basically the same, those steep uphills were replaced with steep, loose dirt downhills.  Overall it was a great hike.  We could see some of our next peaks in the distance and the orange of the super bloom on the valley floor.  Overall the distance was 17 miles with about 5000 feet of elevation gain.

  1. it is my understanding that the route we took was in the closure area. i looked at the map and it did not appear that was the case. Until this issue gets resolved i would not suggest doing this peak. It would be helpful if there was some type of notice on the trail, or main divide road noting the closure.
