I have never hiked in this area before and was excited to explore this area. I was also nervous, as I have heard about the rock scrambling. I decided to give it a try. I came along with Happy Hikers SCV, a group I love to hike with.

This was a beautiful trail. The clouds were hugging the mountain and gave the effect of hiking in the clouds. By 8am, it was already starting to get warm. While I drove up Angeles Crest in thick fog, at the trailhead, the sun and blue skies broke through. The first 2.5 miles was easy in my opinion-the terrain was smooth, and we followed the ridge. As we came to a stop before the climbing began, we noticed many fire ants in the area. These guys proceeded to launch an attack on the group, biting a few people. Oh man!!

The climb was far different from the easy trek we had been on. Nice incline. Rock scrambling. Did I mention flies? Yes…hoards of them. Lots of yucca on the trail now and I manage to run into them every single time. Shana got a decent gash from one and bled profusely. More rock scrambling….then straight up.

We got to the peak and we were above the clouds and had many butterflies join us. We had strawberries!

The trek down. Flies. Bees. Someone got stung by a bee. I got bit by the largest fly I've ever seen in my life. A snake. Yes, the insect world came out to torture us.

All in all, this was a fantastic hike. Did I mention the flies?
