Tough to find the trailhead, and had to backtrack to the Encinoso Picnic Area, where we parked and met a couple of backpackers who had spent the night near the top. The trail begins past the restrooms, close to the road. There's just the picnic area sign on the road. Slow and steady, moderately difficult climb. Shady part of the way, but that's where the mosquitoes are! We could also hear what may have been bark beetles crunching on the trees. Allow yourself 5 hours for this hike. We met about a dozen other hikers, amazing low number for a Saturday in Sedona! Go up when you get to the first bench. We went all the way to the edge or end of trail at the top of Mount Wilson. You could go the other way to the Sedona Lookout. It was about 12 miles on my Fitbit, close to 30,000 steps. I'd definitely do this one again when the pine trees aren't blooming. My allergies kicked up at the higher elevation. Gorgeous views all along the way. This was our first of the 6 summit trails in the challenge.
