Well, it’s the easy route because it is currently the only route. While Wilson is not that high, this route is one of the longer ones in the six-pack and has substantial elevation gain (4717 ft per my recording) On a relatively cool day is was a nice hike. The trail is mostly in good shape, and volunteers are maintaining it; thank you! Even on a weekday it was busy in the first section, but after the Orchard I saw hardly anyone. At the top the cafe is of course still closed. Important to know if you are new to this: there is a water bottle fill station at the NE corner of the cafe, so refill that hydration system! Restrooms are closed.
the route is just west of the burn zone of the Station fire from last year and there are some sad views to that barren landscape with blackened tree trunks. Right before the fire road are trees with burn damage to the base of the trunk where the ground cover burned up. They look in bad shape. And close to the top is the small area that burned a couple of years ago. Shrubbery abound with the skeletal remains of manzanita. The forest is having a rough time, please treat it with respect.
