Whew! That was a big challenge. I decided to start my SoCal 6 pack with Gorgonio since I’ve never summited it before. We backpacked in Friday afternoon to set up our camp at Halfway Camp. I was with my husband, college attending son and his friend. It was quite the steep trail for those first 3 miles. The boys beat us by quite a bit! Saturday morning we got up early and hit the summit by 1 o’clock. Very windy and my fingers were numb because it was cold up there. We went slow and steady. We headed back down to camp, packed up and made it to the car by 7 pm. The last 2 miles were by far the hardest of the day. My toes may never be the same – it was harder going down! All in all a great but very challenging hike. Whitney may be easier in some respects!
