I have always avoided hiking in the snow. Baldy in January is not a hike I have ever entertained. My friend, Kenny, is much more experienced than I. We had talked hiking, but I've never hiked with him because I didn't want to slow him down. But her offered to do Baldy with me so that I could get a first experience using crampons and become more comfortable on snowy terrain. I was nervous. I have hiked Baldy before, but in the summer. It was a long day. Beautiful weather, but lots of snow to traverse. Kenny was patient with my slower pace. Eventually, we made our way to the top!
