Peak 6 in my 48 hour challenge to conquer the full ringer. This was a bitch. I started the hike thinking its short mileage would mean it was easy but this mountain quickly humbled me. Climbing the chain section of this hike quickly showed me that this was not to be taken lightly, as I came across a group where one of their member had fallen and broken her leg, requiring a helicopter rescue to get them safely off the side of the cliff. Definitely a sobering moment of how real these hikes can turn in an instant with a bad step. The views from the peak showed what looked like millions of cacti as far as you could see to the south, as well as a view of nearby trains passing along the highway.
At the end of this I had logged 32 miles and some 13000 feet of elevation change in 41 hours total and completed my challenge.
As a native Californian this weekend showed me that I could live in Arizona and there's plenty of wildlife to be enjoyed here. Something I hadn't previously thought about the Phoenix area was shown to me in a whirlwind weekend.
