Perfect weather for hiking Sitton Peak! The trailhead parking lot across from the Candy Store (as well as street parking in front of the Candy Store, and the store itself) was closed, but there a turnouts on both side of Ortega Highway about 100 yards west of the trailhead.
Reached the trailhead at 7am, started hiking at about 7:08am. Summited by 9:30, and got back to the car by 11:15. Lots of wildflowers in bloom. No bugs, no ticks, no rattlesnakes. We did see a pretty cool lizard sunning on a rock at the summit.
There is a summit register box and two signs at the summit.
It's been a while since I've hiked this one, and I had forgotten just how steep a scramble the last push to the ridge is. There was one section where I used the manzanita branches as hand-holds so I didn't slip on the way up. On the way down, I broke out my trekking poles (huge help for that steep part).
There is still water in the creek that you cross about a mile from the trailhead.
