The upside: The trail signs are clear all the way to the peak and back.

The downside: The signs pretty much warn you of the difficulty of this hike and the parking lot closes at 6:30 pm. So go early when it opens at 8 am to give you time to get to the peak and back. There’s a halfway sign that tells you that if you are not there by noon, to not attempt the peak.

The upside: The trail is clear and maintained. All of the wildflowers were blooming.

The downside: There’s no shade on this trail  so bring extra water. There was a cloud cover in the morning, but it was gone by noon. Past the halfway point, the trail gets more rugged and there is some water flowing. The last half mile when the preserve ends, it turns into a rock climb to the peak when you just have to follow green signs to the peak.

This peak seems easy at the start, but the ups and downs of getting to this peak make it feel like a rollercoaster! Enjoy the ride!
