Crowds thinned out in the afternoon making a peaceful walk down the Backbone in afternoon light.  Since I am afraid of heights, this was a welcome relief from the crowded hike up. I might suggest this for others with a similar fear – wait to take the lift up and plan to do this hike in the afternoon on a not-to-beastly hot day to not deal with the huge crowds on this hike.   A beautiful way to enjoy the Solstice.
