We parked near the trailhead at 4:45am and hit the trails by 5am. Started out with headlamps, but the sky got light fairly quickly. We hiked up Baldy Bowl all the way to the top. It was a steep and pretty trail. The last 1,000 feet of vertical gain was pretty rough. I stopped to catch my breath several times and dropped many f-bombs on the way up. The summit was very sunny and warm, no shade at all. We took Devils Backbone down, which was less technical than Baldy Bowl, but not fun for those who have a real fear of heights. The ski hill after the Devils Backbone was long, steep and rocky. Stopped at the restaurant and grabbed a snack on the way down and then walked the fire road down to our car. That was a long, hot walk with no shade, but I was happy to be walking down it and not up.
