I'd hiked three mountains in the past two weekends with my brother and we were half-way through the six pack of peaks challenge. We were determined to keep up the momentum, but we got a late start that Saturday and didn't get to the Icehouse trailhead until 11:30. It was hot, my brother forgot his trekking poles, I forgot my water bottles, and we took about a two hour break at the saddle. When we told people that we meant to summit Cucamonga that day, we heard responses like: “Good luck!” “You guys probably shouldn't summit today…” and “Did you change your mind yet?” These were all reasonable comments considering our late start, our slow pace, and our low energy, but by gosh by darn it, we made it! Despite all the naysayers! Haha! We made a friend at the top of the mountain before hiking back down the same path we had hiked up, but in the dark and I counted 20 scorpions. We didn't get back to the car until about 10:30 PM… it was a loooooong day. But, per usual, absolutely beautiful scenery and the exhaustion and sore muscles are always worth the experience.
