This is my second time reaching the summit at San Jacinto. The first time was through the Tram and this time we tried it through the Marion Mountain Campground. The first mile certainly felt steep. I knew I was in for a challenge with this one. Although it was only 5 or so miles to the peak, it felt very long the last 2 miles. This route was beautiful though. Several beautiful boulders, bushes, unique trees, you name it! The trees provided great shade coverage, and if there is one thing I like on a hike, it's shade! Once you reach the top you are rewarded with a little rock climbing adventure and then sweeping views of the desert. It is one of my favorite views! Last time I was at the top, the sign was on a post. I am curious what happened to the post! Now the sign is free floating and movable for whatever view you want behind you in your picture. It sure is beautiful. On our way down, I really felt the decline. Coming up I knew it was steep, but I did not realize just how steep it was until my toes were sliding to the tips of my shoes and my knees were struggling with the impact. As much as I enjoyed the scenery, I was so anxious to finish this hike. Starting when the day is young and the sun is slowly rising is one experience, but when the sun is above you, the descend is intense, and you are craving in-n-out, it is another. Like I said in another post, I wish I could say I live for the down hill, but that is not the case. I like the challenge of a steep climb, but heading back down is a challenge I could do without!
Beautiful hike overall.
This wraps up my 6 pack of peaks! I couldn't do it with my amazing hiking team, Diane and Ernesto. You guys are awesome! Thank you for joining me on this journey, I can't wait to see what the next 6 hikes will look like!
