In an attempt to finish 4 more peaks before the end of September to complete the challenge, we decided to do two peaks in one go. At about 9pm the night before the hike, we realized we could bag a third! (not on the list – Big Horn Peak, but worth the extra jaunt, and turned the hike into a fun loop!) We started at 6:30 am and summited Cucamonga by 9:45. We then descended to the Cucamonga Saddle, and took a steep trek up the ridge line to the peak of Big Horn. From there we journeyed over to Ontario peak, and then back to Icehouse Canyon Saddle, and finally back to the car. Between 2 lunches, 3 sock changes, 4 snack breaks, 5 liters of water, and 1 injured toe, we made it! The GPS tracker said we had tallied up 23.6 miles! A doozy! A beautiful, exhilarating doozy.
