I started the hike later in the morning. Parking can be found at Lake Poway and is $10 on weekends. To get to the trailhead you go right from the parking lot. It’s about 0.9 miles to the start of the trailhead. Most of the trail is uphill, but not extremely steep.  For about 1 mile or so, there is a nice view of the lake. The trail is initially fairly wide, but narrows. The trail has rock steps and there is very little shade. We had a nice breeze that kept things relatively cool. I highly recommend going in cool weather or starting the hike early.  The trail is well- marked and does get crowded.  We by passed potato chip rock and made our way up to the peak. It was a lot cooler and breezy. On clear days you can see the ocean. We could not see it as the marine layer was rolling in, but did see the buildings of downtown SD.  When you get to the top there are a number of large rocks you can relax on with a nice overlook. We find one that allowed us a nice vista. We ate lunch and hung out for a bit. After, we waited in line to get our photo op on potato chip rock. My son didn’t want to go on the rock, so he took my picture. This is a good hike for families, as it’s not too difficult.  When you return, Lake Poway has a really nice park to sit and relax at before you go home.
