This is such a short hike that we decided to also add Woodson Mountain on the same day to make it worth the trip from Bakersfield. A fairly easy hike on a dirt road all the way to the top. Although at times boring, it was nice to see the different types of oak trees as well as the impressively red trunk of the Manzinita trees (this was a first). For a change of scenery, be sure to take the 5 Oaks Trail on the descent. And no matter what, you've got to try the apple pie in Julian
