Yesterday evening, I was discussing a possible hike in the snow today, with a friend. It was cold, and a storm was coming. Well in the morning, there was no snow, but there was a window between storms. My friend stayed home, and I went alone!
I had not been to the Stanford Avenue trailhead in years. It's crazy-busy most of the time. (The Ohlone College trailhead is preferred, for me. Though the views, while climbing are not as good, the paid parking garage is quite convenient compared to the Stanford Avenue craziness.) I chose Stanford Avenue today, as I correctly predicted that few people would come out in the cold and wind. It's also a much less muddy route if it's been raining recently.
There was about 8 cars there, versus 100+ on warm spring weekends. VERY windy at the summit, but not too bad while climbing, as the wind was coming over the other side of the mountain. Peak #3 for 2021! If you have the proper gear, give it a try when everybody else is staying home!
