Icehouse canyon trail to the saddle is very well traveled, so the snow was pretty beaten down. We put on microspikes to make the traction easier.  From the saddle to Ontario Peak, microspikes are a must. There were areas where the path was very narrow and having some sort of traction was necessary to traverse.  We put on our snowshoes after the saddle, but it probably should have waited until after Kelly's campground where was snow was a lot deeper. There hasn't been a lot of traffic to the peak, so there weren't really any established trail yet.  There were some footprints, but expect a lot of postholing still if you go in the near future. The last mile to the peak was very windy and chilly, so was the peak. Make sure you wear/bring proper gear to keep you warm. We were able to cut out some of the switchbacks right after Kelly's campground going uphill, and near the saddle on the way down but it was still a 12-mile strenuous trek. We started at around 7:45 am, got to the peak at around 12:30 pm and spent over an hour at peak, and got back to our car at around 5:45 pm.
