Since I did read reports of snow on the trails/loop, we decided to stay on the fire road that goes all they up to the top (out and back). We did see a mountain lion paw print which appeared to be a few days old. To get to the summit you do have to scramble around the fence and be careful of the barbed wire hanging down. The trees during first part of the hike is mostly burned, and the second half up has so much beauty! There is a $10 fee for parking at the campground and it appears you can go any time (we used the Passport Parking App when we got there).
