Gorgeous weather for this hike – cool and breezy! There is not a lot of shade during the hike so having cool weather and starting early was a plus!
When we started the hike, we were the only two cars in the parking lot. Â When we finished, there was not a parking spot or side patch of road free!
The trail is busy with day hikers and bicycles, so be aware of those around you on the trail.
The road to the parking lot is not for the faint of heart. If you are prone to car sickness you should drive or, if a passenger, don’t look at a map while on the road! (Lesson learned!)
Bring a windbreaker for the top – the views are amazing but so is the wind!!
I really appreciated my trekking poles on the uphill and downhill. Â Coming down there is a lot of loose rock, so having good shoes as well as trekking poles is best.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing your journey. I honestly loved hiking Mt. Diablo and I did it a little earlier in the season (it actually got a light dusting of snow the day after we hiked). There are certainly some challenging incline sections over short spans where trekking poles really help.
