I intentionally went south to north with this challenge and it paid off. I knew St. Helena wasn't too long and I also knew it was a trail that could get snow. After Mt. Tam, I was looking for rainy North Bay days to follow with the hope of seeing snow. It did not disappoint.
Most reviews make it sound like it's all fire road, and while granted half of it certainly is, the first two miles are very nice single track with a lot of good rocks to climb over. The snow was on the ground at the beginning but not much. By the time I hit the fireroads, it was everywhere… up to my ankles with 2 miles to go. Beautiful views all the way up of Napa Valley and snow covered peaks.
This was my favorite, as a New Englander it was so cool to hike in snow. Thank you for creating this challenge, I had a blast and raised over $5000 for Alzheimer's!
