January 6th I started out on my first hike for Six Pack of Peaks: New England on the Cog Rail Trail up to Mount Washington Summit. This was my first time summiting Mount Washington in January. Decided I would summit on my birthday. Something I had always wanted to do. So watching weather and seeing trail conditions it was a green light for me to go.

Started just after sunrise, it was overcast with low clouds and falling snow but that changed once was a little over the halfway point and nearing Jacobs Ladder. Clouds broke and rewarded with blue skies and sunshine. Nearing the summit winds became stronger and much colder but it was expected at the summit. Definitely a perfect day for my summit.

The Trail had some areas that were broken out but still required the use of snowshoes which provided ample traction. It was challenging for sure especially nearing summit. Snow tended to not want to stay under my snowshoes and had some slipping but I kept pushing on.

Temps were very low and winds were pretty strong so didn’t stay up for very long. At summit it was pretty much undercast with blue skies and sunshine. Seeing mountains poking up through the sea of clouds was pretty. I had some amazing views. Definitely was an amazing experience and it was worth every step. Definitely recommend this hike to others! Mount Washington doesn’t disappoint! It was my second successful winter summit hike up Mount Washington.
