Super day for a hike! Thought it would be too cold leading up to the Friday hike at a balmy 40 degrees. Proper amount of layers, even stripping one off made for a comfortable day. Clear day, some clouds …. perfect!
Have to say this was one of the most deceiving trails, and mountain I have climbed in awhile. It was the first one of the year, so maybe that was it. Ascends came fast & furious approaching Bald Mtn. Great views along the way to Chocorua. Trails were more ice & snow covered than expected and probably should have thrown on the yaks and cramp-on's sooner than we did. Made for a little longer trek up and some technical, thought out steps had to be made. Liberty Cabin was pretty cool to see —- giving avid hikers a place to camp out overnight if they are making a true adventure. It seems like everything is about .5 miles away, and it looks like you are never gonna make to the peak. Very steep on the ascent to the peak with ice/snow at spots.
Totally worth the energy to make this trek. Views are probably the best in New England on a clear day. Spectacular!
Try it, you'll like it. Until the next morning.
Cheers!
