This one I got a late start on and unfortunately, I’m not sure I made it all the way to the saddle. Close just not quite. According to my Apple Watch I hiked 1.6mi in. That’s about .7mi away from the saddle. I hit the trail just after 1630 and had almost two hours before sunset. Round trip my hike took 1:54:57. I am a solo hiker and I was prepared for nightfall with my head lamp, flashlight, and spare batteries, but the fact I had never done this trail before kept me motivated not to be out there alone in the dark. In addition to time of day I only came across one other hiker heading out as I was heading in. So, I told my safety first and made sure to be back before dark.
This was definitely the most beautiful trail in the series. The trail is very obvious as the foliage along the trail is dense. I used hiking poles on this hike. They’re not necessary but did help my knees on the way out. Also, I do recommend hiking Fremont Saddle at this time of day. The trail was completely shaded and cool. The colors of the sky and the way the sun light hit the rocks, stunning!
I’d like to take my fiancé to do this trail, and start at the same time. With proper lighting and a hiking buddy I’d be more comfortable to hike out as it gets dark.
