San Diego peaks are not that close to where I live and it takes a little bit of planning to hike. I, together with two of my friends, decided to hike Mt. Woodson and Volcan mountain one Saturday. It was doable since total mileage was not too bad, though any inclines always kicked my butt.
Volcan mountain street parking was a little packed when we arrived in the afternoon. It was windy when we started off the hike but tapered down after we clocked in a mile or so. There was a patch of snow halfway and that was it.
I’d say the weather was comfortable for an afternoon hike that day. Not much people on our way up but going back, we encountered families, with small kids even, trailing along and seemed to enjoy it????
Of course, when you’re in Julian, the best way to end the hike is to get some apple pies????
