Completed 1st of 6 peaks. Beautiful 42 degrees morning! Arrived at Bald Mountain parking lot approx 0830 – one parking space left – yay me! Felt a little chilly starting out; long sleeves were nice. Trail was very well marked and maintained. Saw squirrels, chipmunks, blue jays and, oh, a rattlesnake! Rattlesnake not so happy to see me! Gorgeous view at the summit! Friendly people on the trial – a family with a baby in a stroller; very cool to see the dedication of such a fun family outing! Preparing for an Alaskan wilderness expedition in September. First time I had my boots out – got a little “mud on the tires.” 🙂 Feet felt great!

Great job out there! I noticed you saw rattlesnake. What time of day was that? I guess if you are going to Alaska a snake doesn’t scare you!
Hello Mele,
I came across the rattler at about 10:45am right off the trail. Alaska will certainly have bigger challenges, but I’m still keeping my distance from the rattlesnakes on my home turf for sure. 🙂
Smart hiker!
