Due to trail closures resulting from the Fall 2020 Bobcat Fire, my better-half (Joan) and I decided on hiking up to Mt. Wilson via the Old Mt. Wilson trail. Having summited Mt. Wilson from Chantry Flats many times, we found this trail to be much tougher yet more than worth the effort. The trail is well marked, there are multiple water sources, and the views of Little Santa Anita Canyon were spectacular. It was approximately 4-hr. from the trailhead to the summit and then 2.5-hr. for the all-downhill return. Unfortunately Cosmic Cafe and adjacent bathrooms are still closed, but a clean (potable) water spigot is available at the NE-corner of the pavilion. Free parking (no Adventure Pass required) is available at the trailhead. Recommend you start the hike well before 6:30am to avoid early morning sun exposure.
