We hiked South Fork Trail to San Gorgonio Mountain via Dry Lake to the top. and via Dollar Lake on the way back. The forest is burned so in that sense the scenery is gone. However you can see all the surrounding mountains unobstructed, so it is an incredible view.
There is almost no shade. Here in late May it's bearable, but I think it will be much worse in the summer and were scheduled to do this 2 or 3 more times before Whitney, Yikes!
Overall this is a challenging hike. The elevation is high and the trail becomes rocky. and of course its 22 miles which is a challenge on any surface. I look forward to hiking this again… just not tomorrow 😛
