Great hike up to the Baden-Powell summit. Got a very early start anticipating a heat issue with our current Excessive Heat Warning in effect. Turned out the weather was great all day. A few bugs, but not bad. Sadly, the flag had been removed from the summit.

Great day!!!
The flag was removed because someone installed it without approval from the NPS, it is a giant PVC pipe that had a zip tied flag. They already have the boy scout memorial as the peaks marker. So no, its not unfortunate, people need to stop desecrating the mountains with household materials.
Sorry Chelsea, we’ll just have to agree to disagree. I don’t see displaying the flag as desecration in ANY circumstance. For *me*, I enjoy seeing the flag on the summit, as there has been one there each time I have gone up. If you find that disagreeable, you are certianly entitled to your opinion – as am I entitled to my opinon. Have a wonderful day.
I have been hiking the peak for years and only recently someone decided to erect the PVC pipe. It’s not okay to just install whatever you want regardless of what it is. If it was a professionally installed and approved thats one thing, this is not. This encourages people to install/leave whatever they want as opposed to respecting the land. The individual who installed this is disrespectful and should display his patriotism at home. Pack in Pack out.
I will grant you that, if it was a PVC make-shift concoction. I did not see what was removed. No way to post a picture to my reply, but each time I have summited, there was a very large (maybe 4ft x 6ft) beautiful American Flag attached to a metal pole that was anchored in rock/concrete base. Very respectful, appropriate and a welcome sight to greet those who accomplish the summit.
