Mailbox Peak

I told my dad, a grizzled old mountaineer, that I was doing this hike and he questioned my sanity. The old trail is no joke – masochists will enjoy the 4000′ gain (or loss) in 2.5 miles. However, it is worth doing once – just for the bragging rights. I went up the old trail and down the new. The views at the top are excellent and the rocky exposure made for enjoyable climbing. Sadly, there was no mail in the box for me. Someone had left a piece of cake, which was both weird and gross.
