Started the hike in the chilly morning at the Ice house Canyon trailhead. The beginning of the trail weaved by a myriad of neat little cabins ( I believe this is why it is called Ice House Canyon), beautiful autumn colored trees, and a small stream. Once we began climbing a little more, we eventually reached the wooded pine tree area. We rested a bit at the saddle before making the final ascent through rocky slopes and more pine trees. The top provided epic views of the Inland Empire, and the sun proved to be a major relief of warmth as we rested.

The hike was not too strenuous due to the slow pace and the cold weather. If we did this hike in the middle of summer, I would be saying differently about the difficulty of this hike. But today was the most perfect weather: low 60s with clear skies. The trail was pretty maintained for the first half of the hike up, but it got a little more dangerous as the trail moved onto loose rock near the summit.

Overall this hike felt great. I finished the hike with plenty of energy to spare and more than half of my water supply left. I’m feeling great with my fitness level and I cannot wait to summit San Gorgonio next month to finish off the Six Pack of Peaks Challenge!
