Many of us have done Icehouse Canyon numerous times as a gateway to various other destinations. It is a beautiful setting just about any time of year and a place you can experience the seasons here in SoCal. On the hike the fall colors were on display with the orange leaves contrasting the blue sky. These are the things that make a strenuous hike worth the effort.

The trail was clear for the most part except for downed trees above Kelly Camp. It seems they have been down for a while, you just have to get over it. The weather was perfect, not too hot or cold. There were very few people on the trail. Between Icehouse Saddle and Ontario I saw only five other people. I had the peak all to myself for the hour plus I stayed on top enjoying the view and watching the chipmunks dart in and out of the rocks. The view to the south was a layer of thick haze with mountain tops poking above it like islands in an ocean. The view across the Angeles forest was clear. I could make out many of the peaks that I was just on this past month. The silence was also incredible. That was until you get to the ridge with a view of the southern metropolis, then I could hear this low drone of sound from all the vehicles below.

Overall another great day in the wilderness.
