This was a late start but since I needed one last hike before the big Rim-to-Rim backpacking trip in about 8 days, I decided to do a sunset hike to Baldy. The hike was uneventful, but the views were amazing. Also despite having summitted Baldy multiple times in the past, this was the first time I would experience the summit at sunset. I got to the summit with just the last bit of daylight, took the obligatory photos, rested, then prepared to sleep at the summit. Despite falling asleep shortly, due to the noise of the wind, I got up at midnight and decided to hike back to the car and sleep there. The trip down was uneventful although I was surprised to find some hikers heading up at such a late or early hour at the fire road about an hour from the trailhead. Once I got to the car, I fell asleep. A good finish to the SoCal Challenge for this year.
