This trail was great for getting back into the big hikes after taking a couple of months off from the challenge. Easier than I anticipated but still long and a great leisurely workout. The 40 switchbacks made it seem easier than others I’ve done as it’s more of a gradual climb and was enjoyable for never having hiked a long one like this with the 2 friends that joined me. Gave us a chance to get to know one another without struggling to talk and hike! We were still a bit out of breath at times due to the altitude so took a few short breaks on the ascent. Great views at the top. Spent about an hour taking photos, having lunch and a beer and enjoying the scenery then headed back down. The way up took us about 3 hours and around 2 hours for the descent. Although not steep the way down was still a little tough on the knees. Perfect sunny weather for November but not too hot. Parking at the trailhead was also easy. We arrived around 9:30am and got one of the last spots luckily but didn’t seem like a ton of traffic on the trail. I think most people got an earlier start. Saw a big group of Boy Scouts at the top which was cool considering the trail is named after the founder.
