On this lovely morning in March, my husband and I took 2 of our friends who had never summited Wilson (or any of the 6 pack before) to Chantry Flats, where we began a journey up the Sturtevant trail towards Mt. Wilson. The first 3 miles where relatively easy as we went downhill and then followed the creek up toward Sturtevant camp. At the camp we took a break, enjoyed some food, took turns on the swing, and talked to some people that were running the camp. My husband always spends some time with the guitar inside when we pass by. From there we slowly made our way up the steepest section with switchbacks up to the top. When we finally got to the top we took some time to enjoy the views from the official summit. We walked over to the cafe area and ate some lunch (unfortunately they were power-washing the cafe, so we had to make do on a patch of blacktop near the restrooms). Afterwards we went down through the burnt area on the Upper Winter Creek trail. The downhill took a little longer than anticipated, and by the time we got back to our car, and drove down the windy road, we found we were locked in. We called the number we were supposed to call so that someone could let us out (and the other line of cars that were patiently waiting behind us) and one hour later they finally let us out. Moral of the story, get an earlier start!
