Rather than follow the suggested hike from Stinson Beach to the East Peak, I chose to follow in the footsteps of Allen Ginsberg, Gary Snyder and Philip Whalen and retrace the circumambulation hike they took around Mt. Tam on Oct 22, 1965 (Check out the article ” Circling the Mountain” by Michael P Branch). While you give up the spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, you more than make up for it by getting the “full experience” of the mountain.
