We did Strawberry Peak via this trail on 1/8/2021. The way up to Strawberry Peak wasn’t bad. We brought microspikes but definitely didn’t need them except for a few short stretches.
On the way back we decided to take the firebreak to bag Lawlor Peak. The way up the firebreak from the Strawberry Peak side of the trail was my favorite part of the hike. The microspikes were necessary and the trail was mostly overgrown but not too hard to just follow the ridge. We decided to take the rock scramble down from Lawlor and it was by far the most intense scramble I have ever descended. The dirt was very loose and the rocks were loose as well. The scramble descent took us nearly an hour to come down a little over a third of a mile. Unless you’re looking for something very challenging and even a little frightening I would recommend coming back down Lawlor the long way.
