Quartz Peak!
It’s been about 15 years since I went up this trail. Getting to it before the sun came up was kind of sketchy since it was off road and I took a wrong turn somewhere and went though a couple of barbed wire makeshift cattle gates that I had to open and close. Other than that you can make it to this trailhead with any vehicle that has adequate clearance as there are sections of the road to here that I couldn't imagine a car getting to. From door to door in 3 hours and 06 minutes. Oh my goodness was it windy! The weather app said 8 MPH winds, but the weather app was a liar for sure. Hiking across some sections of ridgeline I was hit with a gust so hard that it threw my balance off on more than one occasion. I’m pretty sure I was the first to summit this trail today, but ran into a handful of groups on my way back down. Loved this hike, but it’s still not the apex of the range and I don’t think that getting to the apex (Hayes Peak) from Quartz is the best way to go about it.
