We thought that the rain two days prior would be the last of it for a while, but we were wrong! Expecting clear skies (made extra clean and clear by the nice rain), we instead found it was quite overcast out in Pine Creek wilderness. This was no problem, at least until we started gaining elevation en route to the peak. We reached a certain point where we just walked right up into the clouds we had seen from below, and unsurprisingly started to get rained on. We reached the peak more than a little soaked, but thankfully not too cold! At the end of the day, it was fun to hike in some atypical weather, and the gray skies really brought out the verdant colors of the chaparral plants around us. The only true complaint I have is that the weather kept us from seeing the monzogranite dome that corte madera is famous for as well as the views from the peak. Oh, and it kept all the birds in hiding — so my eBird checklist was quite sad even after 3 hours of looking and listening while hiking, although I did see a very cute oak titmouse right off the trail.
