Well, I'm not sure how to describe the appearance of the trail. I can tell you the sun was out and that is was very windy. I saw some interesting signs. They described the different types of snakes I may encounter. There was another one that showed the lifespan of a mountain lion. A few rocks on the trail had peculiar formations. I thought I saw a similar character of one of the talking rocks in the 80s movie “Labyrinth.” The other kind of looked shaped like crocodile. It easy to miss the directory sign that mentioned the summit. My only clue was seeing a sign for Five Oaks Trail and knew I didn't want to take it. It wasn't the trail to the summit from reading the overview. Nonetheless, I found the summit and I loved the views from the top!! Volcan Mountain is a great beginner/novice trail to hike. I'm not one who likes going 4-5 hours one-way assuming out and back could be half a day to complete. So, I was glad to start my first peak here after taking care of errands. Great remote area for a hike.
