I thought it to myself, I said it out loud, I muttered it quietly, I screamed it internally…throughout a successful but brutal 19 hours on Mt. Whitney only six days ago, I told myself “I'm never hiking again.” But, I was lying to myself. I'm glad that I was and I'm happy that I hauled myself out to Palm Springs today for San Jacinto. Since I'm no longer training for Whitney, I treated myself to the tram up to the Mountain Station and started from there. The weather was perfect, with a nice cool breeze coming in at just the right time and a beautiful blue sky. The trail wasn't very crowded on the way up, although the tram was packed on the way back down. This is one I would definitely do again, even if not all the way to the rocky summit — there were so many spots to stop along the way and enjoy the view, it would still be a great day even without the summit.
