It was a great trek, my first time out there.  Drove in early from North Park, so left just before 7am Sunday and arrived just after 8am.  A small handful of cars along the street and still cold enough to keep everything frozen.  It was easy to find, well marked and once you got the 50-100 yards up the access road, you found great signage and a neat access point built out!  Going up the trail, everything was still frozen and where the snow had been packed down, or melted the previous day and refrozen overnight, it was definitely slick and slippery.  Saw a few crampon marks in the snow and ice but I managed in my new Keens!  (Yeah, love my new Keens!!)  Missed the access to the “Five Oaks” breakout trail, heard that was the best way to go, will do that next time (and ‘Yes', there will be a next time out to Volcan).  Most of the hike was done in the snow which was really fun, made it a bit more difficult but who's out there for easy anyway, right?  Upon reaching the top, met a couple of neat gals, Jen and Cindy, Jen has already submitted her post and another gal I talked to was also doing the 6-Peak Challenge!  AMAZING views from the top.  There was a memorial box up top looking east, you could see the Salton Sea from there.  I had my Breakfast there.  What an fantastic way to enjoy Sunday morning breakfast!!  Then you look west and you can see the Pacific Ocean.  Going down things were beginning to soften up so a little slushier and muddier, but again, that's all part of the fun, who doesn't like stomping in the mud a bit, well I do anyway!  LMAO!!!  Getting there early was good as there were a lot of people going up as I was going down, so the crowds were certainly coming!
