In our last trek before the summer (besides maybe bagging Mt. Wilson in April), we decided to not risk encountering any snow and went down to Orange County. It was a great choice — the weather was sublime (I'm glad we got Sitton Peak out of the way early in the year, I can see how it could get way too hot in the summer months), and the trail was not busy at all, which kind of surprised us given the great weather, relatively easy trail, and the gorgeous scenery. We made pretty good time up to the top, so we took our sweet time eating lunch and enjoyed the vistas. There are parallel trails that run from about 1 mile from the trailhead all the way to the 4-corners mark, we came one way up and the other way down. Warning: bugs are abundant. They didn't bother me much, but my better half had wished she had a bug screen. (We encountered a gal along the way that was wearing one, she had obviously hiked here before!). One final note, there is some pretty serious construction going on on Hwy 74 between the county line and Lake Elsinore, make sure you look up road closures beforehand. For the weekend we hiked they were only closing access at night.
