The San Jacinto State Park offers some of the best snowshoeing in Southern California and I go there frequently to take advantage of it. For this hike I took the first tram and headed up the Ranger Route to Miller Saddle and on to the Peak. There was plenty of snow so not too many people far from the ranger station. I ran into a few people making there way down from the summit to Miller Saddle and after I summited I found out why. The main trail was not beaten down yet, and had signs of avalanches, so anyone who made it up abandoned the trail and went straight up on the switchbacks. That meant glissading when I went down that way which was fun. Rather than follow the trail to Wellmans Divide I jumped off and went cross country through Tamarack Valley until I rejoined the Ranger Route, or Sid Davis Route. I took all the gear, microspikes, crampons, ice axe, snowshoes and used them all. This area is always awesome, but extra awesome with snow. I had a great time.
