Also working on the Sierra Club HPS, so I wanted to cross off all three peaks in the area in a single loop hike. I parked at the Marty Minshall Trailhead on the 79 freeway, hiked up the old fire road of Middle peak, then trekked down the seemingly abandoned Black Oak trail down the backside of Middle Peak before turning onto the Azalea Spring Fire Road for 0.2 miles. Then I planned to take the Conejos trail up the back of Cuyamaca, but it was too overgrown and at this point I had done 5 miles with lots of bushwacking and wasn't feeling it. I continued down the Azalea Spring fire road until it met up with Cuyamaca's Lookout fire road, which I took to the summit and all the way back down to the 79 freeway, where I found the Stonewall Peak trail. Once at the top of Stonewall, I continued down the Peak trail to the north, which was seemingly not travelled in a while, until I made it through other trails in the Natural Preserve back to my car. What a trip.
