Very little shade and an unintentional late start made for a rough hike. The first 4.5 miles are fairly easy, but that last half mile up to the peak is a scramble. My soles on my hiking boots broke at the bottom of the peak so I hiked 3 miles with floppy soles and then the last mile with no sole on my right boot. My husband and I took 3 liters of water each and we both ran out with 2-3 miles to go. By the time we made it back to our truck we were both experiencing heat exhaustion. Luckily we had water waiting for us in the car. Temps hit 100 on the trail. Not our favorite hike but we learned a lot and are grateful we weren’t worse off.
